School Activities

Sport - School

Sport at St. Michael's N.S. is an important part of our day.  In addition to our bi-weekly P.E. sessions, we take frequent movement breaks in the classroom and all P.E. equipment is available to the pupils during break-time in the yard and on the school green.  We also organise various workshops for the pupils such as gymanstics.

Sport - Hockey

St. Michael's N.S. has a joint hockey team with St. Finbarres N.S.  Together we take part in various hockey matches and hockey blitzes. Training is on a Saturday and during school.

Sport - Tennis

During the Summer term, the pupils have tennis lessons in the St. Michael's Tennis Club over the road from us.

Sport - Hurling

During the winter months the pupils attend hurling training at Blackrock G.A.A club

Sport - Swimming

Swimming takes place after school on Fridays at the Douglas Swimming Pool.

Sport - Athletics

During the year the pupils take part in athletic activities and workshops.  We also have our School Sports Day each year in June and take part in the Small Schools Athletics Competition.

School Clubs

We have a drama and debating club in the school.  The drama club takes part in various activities and shows and our debating club enjoy successful meets against other local schools.

IT Engagement - Maths

Manga High and Time Tables Rockstars

Manga High is a games-based maths resource that we use in the Senior Room.  There are 18 original maths games and more than 60000 maths questions, full reporting and analytics.

Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice.

All pupils have their own personal logins for both programmes and we encourage them to practice them at home as well.

IT Engagement - Scratch Programming

With Scratch, you can program your own interactive stories, games, and animations — and share your creations with others in the online community.  Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century.  What's this item about?
